Stress Management

Stress Management Training

Stress management training IS NOT counselling or psychotherapy. It is about developing a wider range of skills to deal with potentially difficult situations.

Stress Management Training is about understanding the stress response:

  • What is it?
  • What triggers it?
  • How does it affect us, physically and psychologically?
  • What can we do about it?

It then seeks to enable the individual to develop more useful responses when faced with potentially stressful situations, and to learn how to relax effectively in order to break the stress cycle, restoring balance to the mind and body.

Services offered include:

  • Stress awareness workshops (one day/half day sessions)
  • Relaxation training
  • Self assessment to identify problem areas
  • Developing positive thinking patterns

Organisational Stress Management

Stress can be a real and expensive drain on resources from an employer's viewpoint.  How much does sickness absence cost your business?

  • Stress is rapidly becoming the most common cause of sickness absence from work
  • 1 in 5 managers report they are suffering from high levels of stress at work
  • The average sickness absence attributed to stress is 29 days
  • Failure to respond appropriately to stress at work can lead to claims for compensation

All employers have a responsibility for the health and safety of their employees, and that includes taking reasonable steps to ensure they are not at risk from work related stress.  Reasonable steps may include:

  • carrying out a stress audit
  • reviewing job design
  • implementing more effective communication processes
  • introducing flexible working practices
  • training

Understanding People offer training for managers in the HSE management standards, and management and leadership training to ensure managers are able to get the best out of staff without putting them under undue pressure.
